I’m writing while traveling home from moving our last chick out of the nest, as he is spreading his wings to really fly now, to another state.
Pondering my thoughts, my Mama bird heart hurts a little. But as a Mama who prays God’s Word and believes His promises, my heart swells with joy. Unexplainable Joy, because I know He’s got my little chick, my 23-year-old little chick. And this is part of his journey in his Creator’s plan.
“Lift up your eyes and look about you: All assemble and come to you; your sons come from afar, and your daughters are carried on the hip. Then you will look and be radiant, your heart will throb and swell with joy; the wealth on the seas will be brought to you …”-Isaiah 60:4-5a.
As moms, our children are entrusted to us by God. We are chosen to mother them and nurture them to be men and women of God, warriors for Christ, for their good and His glory. This is not just a blessing. It is an obligation, a privilege, a commission, and an honor. Psalms 127:3. Motherhood is not easy. It’s trial and error all the way.
I became a mom to a son at an early age. I grew up with him and watched him grow up and become a wonderful man. He loves the Lord and following Christ’s lead he is a successful businessman, a loving father and now, a grandfather, reaping the blessings of the Lord.
My second child, my beautiful daughter, has always stuck close to me through thick and thin. My shadow has become a wonderful woman, my confidant, and my very best friend. As a woman of the Lord, she is a successful achiever, who values my opinion as a seasoned woman of God, a mother and a wife. She admires me, yet she inspires me. She is my mini-me.
Finally, my youngest son was born when I was 41. I grew older with him. He brings us such joy and lots of laughter. And just like his siblings, he will soar on eagles’ wings, Isaiah 40:31, all the works of his hands will be blessed, he will be the head and not the tail, Deuteronomy 28:13-14, and mighty in the land, Psalms 112:2.
I gave all my children and will continue with my grandchildren, all I have and cherish most to give. That is my faith and love for Christ. They all know that to know me is to know about Jesus.
Whether you’re a Mama bird with young chicks or a Mama bear with older cubs, put your trust in the Lord, the One Who created them for you. He knows them and loves them more than we can imagine, Psalms 73:28, Hebrews 2:13.
Loved this - my mama's heart rejoices with you. I loved the way you painted word pictures of your children as they rise up and call you blessed. Carol Graham
